The administration of the water extract from Ashwagandha (100 mg/kg/d) with drinking water for 8 months has shown to be safe and showed no toxicity in rats [21]. Ashwagandha may operate as a gamma-aminobutyric acid mimetic, cholinomimetic, and agonist for α-7 nicotinic receptors for cognitive function protection [22]. However, no clinical trials or documented data are available on the efficacy of these drugs for presbycusis treatment, despite being widely used in clinics.
