Mediators of a Physical Activity Intervention on Cognition in Breast Cancer Survivors: Evidence From a Randomized Controlled Trial

Mediators of a Physical Activity Intervention on Cognition in Breast Cancer Survivors: Evidence From a Randomized Controlled Trial

A total of 87 breast cancer survivors were enrolled in a randomized controlled trial of a 12-week physical activity intervention [21]. Data were collected from February 2015 to July 2016. The study was approved by the University of California (UC) San Diego Institutional Review Board (protocol number 140694), and all participants provided written informed consent. The trial was registered on Clinical Trials.gov (NCT02332876).

Use of the Fitbit to Measure Adherence to a Physical Activity Intervention Among Overweight or Obese, Postmenopausal Women: Self-Monitoring Trajectory During 16 Weeks

Use of the Fitbit to Measure Adherence to a Physical Activity Intervention Among Overweight or Obese, Postmenopausal Women: Self-Monitoring Trajectory During 16 Weeks

This study reports in detail the adherence of women assigned to use a clip-on Fitbit tracker as part of a low-touch physical activity intervention. Main study outcomes have been reported previously [15]. Participants were 25 postmenopausal, overweight or obese women assigned to a 16-week low-touch, Fitbit-based intervention as part of a randomized controlled trial.

Wastewater Surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 at Long-Term Care Facilities: Mixed Methods Evaluation

Wastewater Surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 at Long-Term Care Facilities: Mixed Methods Evaluation

Monitoring wastewater for SARS-Co V-2 RNA can identify previously unknown cases in a population [7] and guide clinical testing and infection prevention activities to mitigate new infections [7,8]. Wastewater surveillance has potential advantages over clinical testing. Foremost, it measures disease presence in a population via a single sample, making it more efficient than individual surveillance [9].

Utilization of Smoking Cessation Informational, Interactive, and Online Community Resources as Predictors of Abstinence: Cohort Study

Utilization of Smoking Cessation Informational, Interactive, and Online Community Resources as Predictors of Abstinence: Cohort Study

Improving delivery of tobacco treatment services is a national health priority [1,2]. The Internet is a promising channel to reach a large number of smokers [3]. Approximately 70% of US adults report at least occasional use of the Internet with 60% having Internet access in their homes [4]. Recent trends that demonstrate increasing Internet access among diverse groups are particularly encouraging.

Digitalizing and Upgrading Severe Acute Respiratory Infections Surveillance in Malta: System Development

Digitalizing and Upgrading Severe Acute Respiratory Infections Surveillance in Malta: System Development

In 2020, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) invited countries across Europe to collaborate in setting up a surveillance system for patients with severe acute respiratory infections (SARI). In general terms, a patient with SARI is defined as a patient who is hospitalized presenting with acute respiratory symptoms (see more details below). Public health surveillance systems are vital tools to monitor the incidence and severity of infectious diseases in a population [1,2].

Impact of a Statewide Internet-Based Tobacco Cessation Intervention

Impact of a Statewide Internet-Based Tobacco Cessation Intervention

The goal of this study was to determine a more precise estimate of the program’s impact on its participants. This study was designed specifically to address gaps in the current literature by achieving a high response rate at a commonly used follow-up point (ie, 6 months after registration). Content and programming for quitplan.com are provided by Healthways Quit Net Inc. The Quit Net service has been described elsewhere [16].

User Experiences of the McMaster Optimal Aging Portal’s Evidence Summaries and Blog Posts: Usability Study

User Experiences of the McMaster Optimal Aging Portal’s Evidence Summaries and Blog Posts: Usability Study

At a time when patients have become more active participants in health care decision making [1], the Internet can be used as a healthy-aging information “tool” [2,3]. Increasingly, people turn to the Internet as a source of information, motivation, and support for healthy living and management of common health conditions [4].

Access to and Use of Internet and Social Media by Low-Morbidity Stroke Survivors Participating in a National Web-Based Secondary Stroke Prevention Trial: Cross-sectional Survey

Access to and Use of Internet and Social Media by Low-Morbidity Stroke Survivors Participating in a National Web-Based Secondary Stroke Prevention Trial: Cross-sectional Survey

Social media is a type of technology that is increasingly being used as a recruitment tool [17]. Little is known about how stroke survivors, who may be experiencing cognitive or physical disabilities, engage with social media and other technologies. Limitations on typing as well as a tendency for others’ attention to focus on a person’s disability have been associated with negative experiences for people with physical disabilities using social media [18].

Central Hemodynamic and Thermoregulatory Responses to Food Intake as Potential Biomarkers for Eating Detection: Systematic Review

Central Hemodynamic and Thermoregulatory Responses to Food Intake as Potential Biomarkers for Eating Detection: Systematic Review

Among these studies, 7 observed a postprandial increase in systolic blood pressure, while 4 found a statistically insignificant (P>.05) response, and 1 study even reported a postprandial decrease. Similarly, 8 studies found a postprandial decrease in diastolic blood pressure, while 3 studies found a statistically insignificant (P>.05) response, and 1 study observed a postprandial increase.
