Older Adults’ Experiences Using a Commercially Available Monitor to Self-Track Their Physical Activity

Older Adults’ Experiences Using a Commercially Available Monitor to Self-Track Their Physical Activity

The TAM posits that a person’s intention (acceptance) to use a new technology such as a PAM depends on their perceptions of its ease-of-use and its usefulness [13]. Research questions at the short-term and long-term assessment time points were: 1. Do older adults believe that PAMs are easy to use? 2. Do older adults believe data provided by a PAM is valuable and useful for self-monitoring and supporting their PA? 3. Do older adults with experience using a PAM intend to continue using it to track their PA?

Smartphone App–Based Assessment of Gait During Normal and Dual-Task Walking: Demonstration of Validity and Reliability

Smartphone App–Based Assessment of Gait During Normal and Dual-Task Walking: Demonstration of Validity and Reliability

Smartphones contain a 3-dimensional accelerometer, a 3-dimensional gyroscope, and a digital compass that are similar in sensitivity to research-grade biomechanical instrumentation. The smartphone, when secured to an individual’s lower back or sternum as they walk, can detect gait events such as heel strikes [10], as well as kinematic differences between those with and those without movement disorders, such as Parkinson disease [11,12].

Comparison of Use Rates of Telehealth Services for Substance Use Disorder During and Following COVID-19 Safety Distancing Recommendations: Two Cross-Sectional Surveys

Comparison of Use Rates of Telehealth Services for Substance Use Disorder During and Following COVID-19 Safety Distancing Recommendations: Two Cross-Sectional Surveys

Following the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, the implementation of corresponding safety distancing recommendations created what some have termed a disruptive innovation scenario [9] wherein the use of telephone- and video-based telehealth services was urgently supported at a federal level and began to occur among treatment providers at unprecedented levels [10].

Examining the Evidence on the Statistics Prerequisite for Admission to Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs: Retrospective Cohort Study

Examining the Evidence on the Statistics Prerequisite for Admission to Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs: Retrospective Cohort Study

Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the questions: (1) Is the time elapsed since students’ completion of the statistics prerequisite (duration) associated with their performance in a DNP statistics course? (2) Are the grades of the statistics prerequisite course associated with students’ performance in a DNP statistics course? and (3) Does a postadmission statistics overview course prepare students for a DNP statistics course as well as a required statistics prerequisite course?

COVID-19 Variant Surveillance and Social Determinants in Central Massachusetts: Development Study

COVID-19 Variant Surveillance and Social Determinants in Central Massachusetts: Development Study

Typically, GIS dashboards fail to incorporate the socioeconomic correlates of health that could provide a deeper understanding of transmission dynamics when combined with geographic and genomic data. This paper presents the development of the University of Massachusetts’ Graphical user interface for Geographic Information (MAGGI) variant tracking system, a GIS dashboard that integrates genomics and socioeconomic data into a high-resolution geographical dashboard.

Patient-Centered Design of an Information Management Module for a Personally Controlled Health Record

Patient-Centered Design of an Information Management Module for a Personally Controlled Health Record

The user interface of a well-designed personal health application should provide a mechanism for the collection and organization of information from patients with a range of health literacy and technology skills, while maintaining the capacity to codify answers and communicate them in a standardized fashion to clinician-controlled electronic medical record systems. Successful implementation of a technology depends on a match between the system design and the users’ expectations and abilities.

Technical Implementation of a Multi-Component, Text Message–Based Intervention for Persons Living with HIV

Technical Implementation of a Multi-Component, Text Message–Based Intervention for Persons Living with HIV

For people living with HIV, antiretroviral therapy has transformed HIV into a chronic health condition that can be managed via medication adherence [4]. However, adopting and maintaining healthy behaviors and a medication regimen over a lifetime is challenging and may require ongoing behavioral reinforcement [5].

Technical Assistance Received by Older Adults to Use Commercially Available Physical Activity Monitors (Ready Steady 3.0 Trial): Ad-Hoc Descriptive Longitudinal Study

After the initial orientation, participants were encouraged to contact the research team for any PAM-related questions or issues they experienced through a dedicated study telephone number or email. Research staff were responsible for monitoring the telephone and email. They responded to reports of PAM problems within 1 day or up to 2 days if the request was received on a weekend or holiday.

Postsurgical Pain Risk Stratification to Enhance Pain Management Workflow in Adult Patients: Design, Implementation, and Pilot Evaluation

Development of the POQI platform combined existing technologies from 3 industry partners (Figure 1): a preoperative survey and POQI platform for low-risk patients (POQI-L), supplied by Thrive Health; a POQI platform for high-risk patients (POQI-H), supplied by Careteam Technologies; and a data broker, supplied by Excelar Technologies (also incorporating Xerus Medical from 2021).

Cross-Tailoring Integrative Alcohol and Risky Sexual Behavior Feedback for College Students: Protocol for a Hybrid Type 1 Effectiveness-Implementation Trial

Cross-Tailoring Integrative Alcohol and Risky Sexual Behavior Feedback for College Students: Protocol for a Hybrid Type 1 Effectiveness-Implementation Trial

National data show two-thirds of college students are current drinkers, 1 in 3 reports past-month heavy-episodic drinking (more than 5 drinks in a row), and 1 in 10 reports high-intensity drinking (more than 10 drinks in a row) [1]. Greater college student alcohol consumption and heavy drinking on a given day are linked to increased sexual activity and risky sexual behavior (RSB; eg, unprotected sex and unplanned hookups) [4-9].
