Although voice-activated systems seem to offer an easy, engaging way to use an intervention, it is an open question whether older adults coping with multiple chronic conditions would show more sustained use of a voice-activated platform and whether this would lead to improved health outcomes. To test this hypothesis, we propose a trial comparing the text and typing-based version of Elder Tree delivered on a laptop to a voice-based version delivered on a smart display.

The intervention consisted of (1) an individualized assessment, (2) a transition navigator, (3) patient skill-building delivered via online modules, and (4) a structured education program (see Figure 1 for an overview of the RCT design) [16]. Half of the RCT participants were randomized to the biopsychosocial intervention, and half received a standardized version of routine care for transition [16]. Adolescents and young adults in the intervention arm received support from a transition navigator.

CAPRI is an application of DRM in oncology. It specifically targets patients receiving oral anticancer agents, focusing on improving adherence, managing toxicities, and enhancing overall patient care. The core of CAPRI lies in its dual components: a digital interface (including a smartphone app and a web portal) and the active involvement of NNs in patient monitoring and intervention [14]. NNs involved in the CAPRI study received in-house training during two 2-hour sessions on how to use the application.

ICUs are both labor-intensive and technophilic, offering an opportunity to evaluate the potential role of robotics to facilitate critical care despite potential technical challenges [1]. The ICU environment is characterized by an assortment of medical devices, including ventilators, physiologic monitors, intravenous pumps and lines, feeding tubes, various drainage and catheter systems, and dialysis equipment [2].

Practicum is an essential educational component of professional training [1,2], bridging the gap between theory and practice and enhancing the professional capacity and core competence of future practitioners [3,4]. The quality of fieldwork profoundly influences social work trainees’ personal, intellectual, and professional development [4], per communication skills, critical reflection, professional growth, creativity, innovation, and self-efficacy [1,5].

Participants who met screening criteria received an automated email invitation to download the DCH app and a unique code to create an account within the app for informed consent. All participants reviewed the informed consent form remotely, via DCH’s electronic consent module. Consent comprehension questions were required before electronic signature to ensure participants understood this study’s requirements and duration.

Given the study aim of an in-depth exploration of symptom checker app use by laypersons, the specific focus on users of a single app, the analysis approach grounded in established theory (see the Data Analysis section), the expertise of the researchers involved with an expected high dialogue quality, and the planned techniques to enhance trustworthiness (see the Data Analysis section), a sample of 15 interviews was estimated to generate sufficient information power to explore the phenomenon under study.

The study team included an adult endocrinologist, a primary care provider, a qualitative methodologist, and two qualitative research analysts (one with a Master of Arts degree and one with a Juris Doctor degree, both male). We report our results based on the COREQ (Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research) framework [23].

The sample size for both RCTs was estimated based on an effect study conducted with patients receiving RT for prostate cancer [19], with symptom distress as the primary outcome. The effect size difference (Cohen d=0.54) indicated that, for 90% power at P
