Adolescence is the stage between 11 and 21 years of age, and it is a critical period for the development of self-esteem [49]. Self-esteem is defined by how one positively or negatively views oneself, and low self-esteem is associated with depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation [50-53]. In adolescence, self-esteem is especially vulnerable to protective or harmful influences [54].
