In 7 (30%) of the 23 studies, evaluators had access to participants’ imaging test results [54,55,57-59,61,62] while in 3 (13%) studies they did not [47,66,67]. No information regarding access to imaging results was available for the remaining studies. Of the 21 studies, 3 (14%) had a perfect QUADAS-2 score [55-57].

The effect of delivering digital examinations on the use of multiple-select items was assessed using the Fisher exact test. The level of significance was set at .05. In total, responses from 27 dental schools were received yielding a response rate of 90% (27/30 dental schools). More specifically, 25 Departments of Operative/Restorative Dentistry and 17 deans of studies replied.

Not all TAVI patients benefit from improved physical activity, as assessed by a 6-minute walking test (6 MWT) or the Qo L questionnaire [3,4], nor does physical activity change the incidence of aortic stenosis [5]. Nevertheless, improvement in, for example, the baseline 6 MWT distance in TAVI studies can be a marker for better survival [6,7]. However, these tests could be influenced by other factors and comorbidities such as peripheral vascular disease for the 6 MWT or depression for the Qo L questionnaire.

Assessment of Resident and AI Chatbot Performance on the University of Toronto Family Medicine Residency Progress Test: Comparative Study

We used the Mc Nemar test and Agresti and Min’s [12] confidence interval method to compare the performance of GPT-3.5 versus GPT-4 on the progress test. Paired 2-tailed t tests were used to compare GPT-3.5 versus GPT-4 with respect to the mean length and mean time of generated responses. The Mc Nemar test was used to compare GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 on whether a rationale was given for answers provided on response outputs. All statistical analyses were conducted using R (version 4.3; R Core Team).

Single-choice items have been used for more than 100 years to test examinees’ knowledge. The use of these items began among US school pupils, who were given alternate‑choice or best-answer items [3] or single true-false items [4] as a time-saving alternative to conventional open-ended questions (ie, essay-type examinations). Because of their character of only allowing clearly correct or incorrect responses from examinees, multiple-choice examinations were also called objective type examinations [5].

Remote proctoring was established to provide wide availability for applicants. On January 26, 2021, formal discontinuation of Step 2 CS was announced [4]. The eligibility criteria for taking the Step 3 examination were modified, and completion of Step 2 CS was no longer required to take the Step 3 examination.
