On the other hand, 2 participants found that NIVRT was more difficult to do than physiotherapy since there was no accountability. Several participants commented that NIVRT was a useful tool to improve recovery, but should be combined with walking, physiotherapy, and specific hand exercises (NIVRT does not focus on the hand). A total of 2 participants found that 5 times a week was excessive. When asked, 6 participants (out of 11) or their study partners were interested in continuing NIVRT.

In-person outpatient physiotherapy (PT) has been the standard of care (So C) postoperatively but is associated with significant cost and may be overused following uncomplicated knee arthroplasty [4]. Telerehabilitation and mobile health delivery of PT has gained popularity in recent years [5]. The aim of this study was to compare costs of a smartphone-based care management platform (sb CMP) with traditional care in adult patients undergoing knee arthroplasty.

Eligible participants were students of nursing, physiotherapy, and pharmacy from 2 institutions in Gujarat, India. The study was registered with the ISRCTN Registry (ISRCTN82860715; date of registration: April 6, 2022). The study was conducted from April 2022 to July 2022.
A total of 78 eligible and willing participants enrolled in the study. Computer randomization was performed, with 42 (54%) participants randomly assigned to the intervention arm and 36 (46%) to the control arm.

The FHCW physiotherapy staff was contacted via email with the study information. In addition, physiotherapists and physicians outside the FHCW were informed about the study via email and publicly available contact information. Patients were recruited through personal contact with the help of publicly available contact information, outpatient rehabilitation centers, and physicians at the Orthopedic Hospital Speising (OSS).

The first covariate related to the content of the experimental intervention with VR was as follows: 1=VR training alone; 2=specific physiotherapy (eg, progressive balance training or treadmill training) with VR training as an addition to that specific physiotherapy; and 3=nonspecific conventional physiotherapy with VR training as an addition.
